ICM 1/48 Mistel S1, German Composite Training Aircraft

Primarily developed for precision bombing missions against heavily defended targets such as bridges and bunkers, the German composite aircraft known as Mistel (German for mistletoe) was intended to allow the delivery of a large explosive payload with reduced risk to the pilot. Strictly-speaking, 'Mistel' is the larger payload aircraft, with the entire composite - including the controlling fighter - being known as Huckepack (German for piggyback).

This precision model kit from ICM represents the S1 training version of Mistel, consisting of a Ju 88 A-4, and a Bf 109 F-4 as the controller. An unarmed Ju 88 was used as the payload in this case, as it was a lot safer to learn to fly the compsoite aircraft with an enormous live warhead on board!
